Emmys. Emmys refer to any of several statuettes awarded an- nually for excellence in television programming, productions, or performance. No one is sure of the origin of the name, which may be an alteration (influenced by the name “Emmy”) of immy, which, in turn, could be an alteration of image or- thicon. An image orthicon is a sensitive television camera pick- up tube. On the other hand, it could have been named for some now unknown Emmy.
