词汇 | methodist |
词源 | Methodist. The evangelical Protestant religion was founded on the principles of the brothers John and Charles Wesley in England in the early 18th century. It was named after Charles Wesley’s Oxford “Holy Club” (especially Wesley himself among them), who were noted for their “methodical” ways. Charles certainly was methodical enough to write over 6,500 hymns, the popular Hark! The Herald Angels Sing among them. |
