词源 | fire-fishing. An unusual sport practiced by the voyageurs and others after them, fire-fishing consisted of building a plat- form of fire on the bow of a canoe, the reflection of which would reveal any fish at the bottom of the deepest water. It is also called torch fishing. Fire-hunting was a method of hunting employed by some Native American tribes whereby the woods were set on fire, usually in autumn, and the animals in it were killed as they tried to escape the flames. Some colonists later adopted this “sport.” |
