词汇 | yuppie |
词源 | yuppie. A slang term that has been around for over a decade and threatens to stay longer. It is generally a disparaging term meaning Young Urban Professional, especially one who puts getting ahead ahead of everything, and was first recorded in 1983 by syndicated columnist Bob Greene, who overheard it in a bar. As Green explained the word’s origin: “While [Gerry Rubin] and Abbie Hoffman once led the Yippies—the Youth International Party—one social commentator has ventured that Rubin is now attempting to become the leader of the Yuppies—Young Urban Professionals.” See yippie. |
