yob. A young person who is a rude, offensive, and often vio- lent lout is sometimes called a “yob” in Britain and Australia. The term’s origin is the word boy spelled backward. This pro- cess is called back slang. It has produced hundreds of slang words but very few that are commonly spoken. Another more complicated one is ecilop, “police,” which is often modified to slop (“Here come the slop!”) |
