Windsor knot. The neat triangular knot in a tie is named for England’s fashionable duke of Windsor (1894–1972), who be- came the Edward VIII in 1936 and abdicated the throne later that year so that he could marry American divorcée Mrs. Wal- lis Simpson: “I have found it impossible to carry the heavy bur- den of responsibility and to discharge my duties as King as I would wish to do, without the help and support of the woman I love.” |
