drunk as a skunk. Very drunk. Why a skunk should be espe- cially drunk is unknown to me, but several writers have record- ed the definition. It may have something to do with the smell of a human drunk’s clothing after a binge, but that is just a guess of my own. The animal does leave a foul odor when it sprays, however, and leaves the victim stinko. Then again maybe it was just the rhyming words drunk-skunk that caused all the trouble. See skunk. |
