词汇 | libertine |
词源 | libertine. Early in the 16th century a group of European freethinkers dubbed themselves the Libertines, a word that had previously meant “a freed slave.” Because they believed that there was no sin, and acted accordingly, these Libertines saw their name become a synonym for any morally or sexually un- restrained person, a rake, or a profligate. |
