Another name for a sweet potato and yam in the American South, possibly named after someone who devel- oped a superior variety—which makes that individual one of the few people to have a vegetable named after him or her. Doo- ley also refers to an outdoor toilet building in parts of the South, apparently named after a contractor who built such public structures for the federal government during the Great Depression.
