词汇 | dewlap |
词源 | dewlap. The lap, or fold, of skin hanging loosely from the throat of certain dogs, cattle, and other animals, including hu- mans, may be so named because someone humorously ob- served that such folds “brushed the dew of the grass.” However, no one is sure about the origins of this old word, which is first recorded early in the 14th century. |
