Rh disease. People with Rh positive blood have any of several substances on their red blood cell surfaces, while Rh negative individuals, a much smaller group, lack these substances and are incompatible with Rh positive blood. Erythroblastosas (the destruction of red blood cells) is a disease of newborn infants associated with incompatible Rh blood factors of mother and child. It is often called “Rh disease” and is so named because it was first found in the blood of laboratory (Rh)esus monkeys. |
