词汇 | quickie |
词源 | quickie. Quickie was originally late 1920s Hollywood slang for a Grade B movie, a film comparatively cheap and quick to produce. By the 1930s the term was being used to mean a quick act of sexual intercourse. Quickie is also slang for a full-length book, usually based on fast-breaking news events and written, edited, and printed within a matter of days or hours. Miracle on Ice, the story of the U.S. Olympic hockey upset victory, was written by a team of New York Times reporters and “was re- ceived, printed and on its way to distribution in 46 hours and fifteen minutes.” Since then 2,000 bound copies of another book have been printed in 5 hours and 23 minutes, the world record. |
