词源 | puny. The British borrowed this word from the French in the mid-15th century, misspelling their puisne as puny, but retain- ing its meaning of “late born,” that is, junior or subordinate. Over the years, however, puny took on the meaning of less than normal size or strength; weak; unimportant; insignificant; petty. |
