词源	Irish wolfhound. The tallest of all dogs is also one of the old- est, having been used by the Celts for hunting wolves at least as early as 273 b.c. These large, powerful dogs have a rough shaggy coat and stand up to 32 inches at the shoulder, more than the heftier Great Dane (which was probably bred from it). The Irish wolfhound is also said to have been bred so tall to enable the dogs to pull invading enemies off their horses. The smallest of dogs is the chihuahua. See saluki.
