“I shall go to Korea . . .” A promise made by Dwight D. Ei- senhower during the presidential election of 1952, his words a shortening of his full promise: “I shall go to Korea and try to end the war.” He did honor his promise in November 1952, though his visit did little good besides raising the spirits of many GIs. Eventually there were some 18,000 killed and 100,000 wounded in this “Korean Conflict” or “limited war.” See also he kept us out of korea. |
