词源 | All-Star Game. The idea for an All-Star Game between the American and National baseball leagues came from Chicago Tribune sports editor Arch Ward in 1933. Under Ward’s plan, fans voted for the best players and the winners played each other. In most seasons since then the fans have picked the teams, but balloting is now conducted by the national newspa- per U.S.A. Today. Babe Ruth hit a home run in the first All-Star Game, or Midsummer Dream Game, as it is sometimes called. The premiere was played in 1933 at Chicago’s Comisky Park as a special feature of the Chicago World’s Fair. Football’s Pro Bowl was called the All-Star game until its name was changed in 1951.
