locomotion (n.)

(复数 loci)，1715年，意为“地方，点，地区”，源自拉丁语 locus “地方，点； 指定的地方，位置； 地区，国家； 程度，等级，顺序； 主题，题目”，源自古拉丁语 stlocus，一个起源不明的词。拉丁作家用于希腊 topos。数学意义在1750年左右出现。

14世纪晚期， mocioun，“移动过程； 位置的连续变化； 建议，正式提议”，源自于古法语 mocion “运动，动作； 变化，改变”（13世纪，现代法语 motion），直接源自拉丁语 motionem（主格 motio）“移动，运动； 情感”，源自于 movere 的过去分词词干“移动”（源自于 PIE 词根 *meue- “推开”）。

自15世纪以来，法律意义上的“向法院或法官提出申请”。in motion “处于运动状态”自17世纪初出现； set in motion “开始运作”自1590年代出现。在比喻意义上， go through the motions “假装，敷衍了事”自1816年起源于“模拟动作”的概念。电影 Motion picture 自1896年出现； 晕动症 motion sickness 自1942年出现。
