galleon (n.)

“大型船只”，1520年代，源自法语 galion “武装货船”，直接来自西班牙语 galeón “加强型商船”，增强 galea 的意思，源自拜占庭希腊语 galea “桨帆船”（参见 galley），加强后缀 -on。在15世纪至16世纪发展，比桨帆船更短、更宽，船尾上建有更高的结构。在英语中，特别指西班牙皇家财宝船或护送南美贸易私人商船的政府军舰。
