debutante (n.)

"首次在公众或社会面前露面"，1751年，源自法语 début "首次亮相"，这是一个比喻用法，源自16世纪的 débuter "在台球中打出第一杆"，也指"在保龄球中开球"（一种类似保龄球的游戏），源自 but "标记，目标"，来自古法语 but "结束"（参见 butt（n.3））。该动词首次出现于1830年。相关词汇： Debuted; debuting。
