prospect. Prospect, as a synonym for a salesman’s potential customer, is a term that became common only in the past half- century or so. Prospect has its roots in the Latin prospecto, “to look forward,” which in the 15th century was altered to pros- pect and came to mean a landscape viewed from a distance. About 400 years later the word was finally extended to mean looking forward figuratively when it was applied to a possible customer. |
