词源	jackknife. The ubiquitous American jackknife may take its name from the earlier Scottish jocktilig, a clasp knife named for its original manufacturer, Frenchman Jacques de Liège. A re- spected Scottish historian traced the word to this source in 1776, but modern scholars have been unable to confirm his derivation. See penknife.
