词源 | in the clutch. A baseball player who performs well in a criti- cal moment of a game has been called a clutch player or clutch hitter for over half a century now. The derivation of the term is unclear but the expression is widely used today outside of sports as well. Someone who performs well in any important or crucial situation is said to be dependable or reliable in the clutch. |
