词汇 | champion |
词源 | champion. Knights of old fought for their honor on a field, campus in Latin. A knight was thus called a campion, a fighter in the field, this word becoming champion in English. Champion came to have its present meaning of one who wins first place, or one who is clearly superior because a knight remained in the field only if he won or was superior. |
