cat and dog talk. The cat is a better speaker than the dog, ac- cording to Pierre-Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739–1817), the eccentric French aristocrat who immigrated to the United States and founded the Dupont Company. “The cat,” he ex- plained, “has the advantage of a language which has the same vowels as pronounced by the dog, with six consonants in addi- tion: m, n, g, h, v, and f. Consequently, the cat has a greater number of words.” See crow-french. |
