词汇 | homophobia |
词源 | homophobia. An aversion to gay or homosexual people and behavior based on this aversion. Writing in the New York Times letters column (January 30, 2005), George Weinberg claimed he invented the word: “As a clinical psychologist, I was struck in the early 1960s by the atrocities committed against gay men and women by psychologists as well as by others. I became a devoted activist for gay rights, which to me are nothing more or less than human rights. I was the first to identify the adverse reaction to gays as phobic, and I coined the word ‘homophobia.’ ” |
