词源	Scotch Tape. Scotch in the trademarked adhesive tape’s name refers to the supposed fugality of Scottish people. It seems that 3M (the Minnisota Mining and Manufacturing Company) supplied masking tape to garages where cars were custom painted. To save money the company limited the adhesive coat- ing to just a slight area on each side of the tape. This caused the tape to fall off and led to at least one garage owner telling 3M salesmen in no uncertain terms never to bring him that cheap Scotch tape anymore. The company mended its ways, and fully coated Scotch Tape became famous.
