Oh! Calcutta! Kenneth Tynan’s erotic review Oh! Calcutta! (1969), famous for featuring nude actors and actresses at a time when this wasn’t done, has nothing to do with Calcutta, India. The title is from the French “Oh, quel cul t’as,” which translates roughly as, “Oh, what an ass you have.” Dada artist Marcel Du- champ once added a mustache and the legend LHOOQ to a copy he made of The Mona Lisa. Read aloud in French these letters sound like Elle au cul, or “she has a hot ass.” |
