词汇 | stateside |
词源 | stateside. Stateside may have been invented by G.I.’s in World War II for “to, toward or in the continental U.S.” At least the word is first recorded at about that time when many soldiers were far from home. In the U.S. itself today the term is only used by Alaskans (it is rare in Hawaii) for the mainland. Alaskans also call the 48 contiguous states the Lower 48, the lower states, the Outside, and even the South! |
