necklace. One of the newer horrors of execution, necklace re- fers to a tire filled with gasoline that is placed around the neck of someone thought to be a police informer and set on fire. The gruesome practice was introduced by young black activists in 1985 in South Africa, where Nobel laureate Bishop Desmond Tutu once saved the life of a man about to be necklaced. |
