词汇 | month of sundays |
词源 | month of Sundays. A very long time, as in “It’s taken me a month of Sundays to finish this.” The expression, still heard, is a holdover from another era, when Sundays were considered long days because Christians weren’t permitted to do much on them besides observe the day religiously, an obligation often enforced by laws. The expression dates back to Victorian times in England. See blue. |
