Elysian Fields; Elysium. Greek mythology has the Elysian Fields or Elysium as the place where those favored by the gods will blissfully enjoy their life after death. It was also called the “Islands (or Fields) of the Blessed” and may have been suggest- ed by tales ancient Greek mariners told of reaching islands off Africa’s west coast. In later years heroes and patriots were said to occupy the Elysian Fields. The Champs Élysées (Elysian Fields) is Paris’s wide main boulevard. |
