词汇 | zob |
词源 | zob. Zob is the name of an old game played among officers in the British Navy to decide which of two people will pay for drinks, but the game is now common outside England, where it’s often known as “Rock, paper, scissors.” The players face each other, repeating the word zob three times. Each then makes a closed fist, an open palm, or two fingers extended like a pair of scissors. The game is decided on this basis: “Scissors can cut paper, stone can blunt scissors, and paper can wrap up a stone.” Thus, a player who holds out two fingers (a scissors) beats a player who holds out an open palm (a piece of paper); a player who holds out a closed fist (a stone) beats a player who holds out two fingers (a scissors), etc. The player who loses two out of three zobs pays for the drinks. |
