词源 | zealot. The Jewish sect called the Zealots fiercely resisted the Romans until the fall of Jerusalem in a.d. 70. Their name thus came to describe a fanatical person who immoderately pursues his goals with great passion, the word zealot recorded in this sense as early as 1638. Zealot is ultimately from the Greek ze- loun, to be zealous. |
