词汇 | shipping lanes |
词源 | shipping lanes. In his book Sailing Directions (1855) U.S. Navy Lt. Matthew Fontaine Maury recommended “lanes,” or “strips,” for ships traveling westbound in the Atlantic after the U.S. mail steamer Arctic collided with the French steamer Vesta in 1854. These lanes became the building blocks for today’s complex, internationally approved seasonal routes. |
