词汇 | foul play |
词源 | foul play. Shakespeare may have invented the term foul play. At least he used it first in print, in King John, where Salisbury says “It is apparent foul play,” when suspecting (wrongly) that Hubert has killed the young Prince Arthur. Play is a strange word to associate with murder, rape, and other crimes, even if the term originated in some gambling den, as has been suggested. |
