词汇 | folk-maal |
词源 | folk-maal. Norwegian philologist Ivar Andreas Aasen (1813–96) is the only person known to have created a national language. The author had collected all of his country’s difficult regional speech for the books he had written on Norwegian di- alects. Out of these he fashioned a popular language, or folk- maal, which replaced the Dano-Norwegian his countrymen had previously used, to enable all the nation’s different dialect users to understand each other. Aasen has been hailed as hav- ing “an isolated place in history as the one man who has invent- ed or at least selected and constructed a [national] language.” In order to do this, he not only constructed the new composite language, but also wrote poems and plays in the folk-maal to help popularize it.
