词源 | salt a mine. To secretly stock a gold, silver, or diamond mine with ore or precious stones to make it appear valuable. The ex- pression is said to derive from the practice of dishonest miners scattering a handful of salt, which is the color of gold dust, through mines they wished to sell to unwary investors. |
