词汇 | doorbuster |
词源 | doorbuster. A doorbuster is a discounted bargain often given by stores to customers the day after Thanksgiving, and some- times even before the Thanksgiving Day feast is finished. A New York Times reporter Michael Barbaro has written that doorbusters have “given this day an increasingly sharp-elbowed, close-fisted and purse-swinging edge.” Near-riots are part of the history of stores, however, especially department stores. This year, for instance, an estimated one-quarter million shop- pers will descend on Macy’s in New York’s Herald Square. I can’t find the expression doorbuster listed anywhere, but buster is any remarkable person or thing, a humdinger. See also black friday. |
