词源 | we-all. Early during World War II, Thomas J. Watson, the president of I.B.M., borrowed this expression from southern mountain talk to use in full-page newspaper advertisements throughout the country. He proclaimed: “ ‘I’ represents only one person. ‘We’ may mean only two or a few persons. Our slogan now is WE ALL. . . . President Roosevelt, our Commander-in-Chief, can be certain that WE-ALL are back of him.” |
