词汇 | rastafarian |
词源 | Rastafarian. Long, plaited hair known as dreadlocks mark the outward identity of Rastafarians, who are members of a re- ligious and political group called the Ras Tafari, which in turn takes is name from a title (Ras “King,” “Royal Prince,” or “Duke”) and a family name (Tafari) of Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie (1892–1975). Originating in Jamaica during the 1920s, the group immigrated mainly to the U.S. and Europe. They be- lieve that they are the chosen people, that Haile Selassie was their messiah, and that in time they will return to Africa. |
