Kodak. After inventing this camera in 1888, George Eastman claimed that he intentionally set out to coin a short, easy-to- remember name for it that could not be stolen. He chose k as the first and last letters in the word because k was the first letter in his mother’s family name. The rest of the word came by ex- perimenting with other letters in combination with the two ks, though some have suggested that he might have had Alaska’s Kodiak Island in mind. |
