king of papers. A name often given to The Japanese gampi, a lustrous, vellumlike paper made from the wild thyme shrub. It was long made by Eishiro Abe, who lived well into his 90s and was designated a Japanese national treasure for his art. He made over 176 different kinds of paper by hand, using a com- plicated process that includes pressing and drying for a night and a day. |
