| 词源 | quack grass. Agropyron repens and the other weedy grasses called quack grass are not so named because ducks like them or because they are used by quacks like medicine men. Quack grass, an Americanism first recorded in 1817, derives from the older British word, quitchgrass, quitch being an old form of “quick” and quitchgrass being a very quick grower and insidi- ous spreader into places where it is not wanted. Other names for quackgrass include quatchgrass, twitchgrass, couchgrass, couch, and quitch. |
