Porter, a trustee of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, whose stovepipe hat was similar in shape to the pudding mold. Holyoke students gave the pudding its name in 1837, and it became traditional to serve it every Febru- ary 28 to honor the birthday of Mary Lyon, the college’s founder. |
