词源	lah. In Singapore, where English is one of three official languag- es (along with Malay and Chinese), lah is an expression similar to American English like or you know. Whereas an American might say, “She’s, like, very tall,” a Singaporean speaking English might say, “She’s, lah, very tall.” Lah is said to come from a Chinese dia- lect, but its use is considered to be a sure way to identify a Singa- porean or a Malaysian.
