词汇 | jurassic |
词源 | Jurassic. Wrote James Truslow Adams in The Epic of America (1938): “In what is known as the Jurassic period in the geologi- cal history of the earth, there suddenly developed in the course of animal evolution a vast number of huge reptiles.” The world has recently become more aware of this phenomenon with the release of the movie Jurassic Park (1993), based on a novel of that name by Michael Crichton. The geological term takes its name from the Jura mountains separating France from Switzerland and means “characterized by large quantities of granular limestone,” as these mountains are. |
