词源 | tangle [ME] Tangle is probably from Swedish taggla ‘to disarrange’. A tangled web is a complex and difficult situation. The expression comes directly from Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem Marmion (1808): ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave / When first we practise to deceive.’ See toggle. |
