sis n.as a colloquial abbreviated form of sister, 1659s; in American English, applied generally to girls and young women (1859). As Sis, Siss, it had been also the familiar short form of Cecilie, Cicely, a common name for girls in the Middle English period made familiar as the name of a daughter of William the Conqueror.
