manganese (n.)

十七世纪时，这种黑色矿物，即锰的氧化物（古代在玻璃制造中用于去除着色物质），被称为法文中的 manganèse（16世纪），来自意大利语的 manganese，改编自中世纪拉丁文的 magnesia（详见 magnesia）。从1783年开始，被用作金属元素的名称。
