Old Rowley. Originally Old Rowley was the name of a fa- mous stallion in the British royal stables, a prodigious stud that sired many offspring. The name became even better known as the sobriquet of his master, Charles II (1630–85), the pleasure- loving English king who sired many illegitimate children. See charley. |
